Geography 2050 is a multi-year, strategic dialog about the vital trends that will reshape the geography of our planet in the coming decades. Economic inequality, by many measures, is increasing across the world. Covid-19, initially presented as ignoring social differences, instead has increased and made clearer deep structural inequalities. Minimum wages and changing employment characteristics fail to support basic needs and increase the gap between the poorest and the wealthiest households in developed and developing economies. Persistent and disturbing racial, class, gender, and regional inequalities are increasing apparent variations in health and life expectancy, educational and employment opportunities, intergenerational wealth accumulation, and human mobility.
Geography 2050: Toward a More Equitable Future will focus on the geographical dimensions of inequality and seek to influence the trends shaping our planet's future by critically examining the forces creating and reinforcing the landscapes of inequality and address what can be done to mitigate those factors that impede human progress.
