Ms. Cathrine Armour is Chief Customer Officer at the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO) and is responsible for the development of marine data solutions that support safe, secure and thriving oceans. With expertise across research, innovation and product development, Ms. Armour's teams deliver a range of leading products, services and programs that are helping to stimulate blue economic growth by unlocking access to marine geospatial data. Working in partnership with maritime organizations globally, these teams also deliver a range of world-leading navigational products enabling the safety of life at sea for over 90% of ships trading internationally.
Ms. Armour joined the UKHO in 2018 having led innovative projects that have not only utilized geospatial data to generate economic growth, but also create significant positive change. This includes the inaugural Eye on Earth program, providing access to open data to inform global environmental decision-making for sustainable development. Through international collaboration with the United Nations Environment Program her work helped bring about the data-driven foundation of the Sustainable Development Goals and the sharing of environmental data and information. Ms. Armour's role in establishing Geovation, Ordnance Survey’s award-winning innovation hub and accelerator, helped to boost UK tech innovation by giving tech start-ups access to funding, data and world class geospatial expertise. More broadly she has supported the development of innovation ecosystems across satellite and space technology within the United Kingdom. She is committed to realizing the value of data and information in critical global policy development and decision-making. In 2016 Ms. Armour was short-listed for the Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) ‘Open Source’ Award sponsored by Bloomberg.
