Mr. David Carttar

David Carttar is an urban geographer, GIS specialist, and cartographer who coordinates global geocoding development for Moody's RMS. He collaborates with model developers across multiple perils — e.g., earthquake, hurricane, flood, terrorism, and pandemic illness — as well as with engineers and economists who model structural and financial characteristics of the built environment. David treats street addresses as a culturally relevant means of organizing local space, and geocoding as a means of prioritizing and accessing salient geographic information. In his work, he aims to “spatially enable” exposure data, unlocking implicit and explicit connections with other modeling elements. David has been awarded two patents through his work at Moody’s RMS. He holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in Geography and Architectural Studies from the University of Kansas, and a Master of City Planning degree from the University of California, Berkeley.
