Dr. Sandra Arango-Caro

Dr. Arango-Caro grew up in Colombia where she studied Biology at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana. She has a Ph.D. in biology from the Ecology, Evolution, and Systematics program at the University of Missouri-St. Louis and was a postdoctoral fellow at the Missouri Botanical Garden. Her research includes studies on bird ecology, forest regeneration, threatened species, ethnobotany, and soil health. Parallel to her career as an ecologist, she has dedicated her life to teach, train, and mentor the next generation of scientists. Dr. Arango-Caro has taught at local and overseas universities, as well as mentored numerous professionals and students from high school to graduate level. She joined the Education Research and Outreach Lab at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center in 2014. During her tenure at the Danforth Center, Dr. Arango-Caro has focused on STEAM+Ag education. This includes developing curriculum, providing professional development, and implementing and assessing student authentic research experiences. In addition, Dr. Arango-Caro conducts research on STEAM+Ag education, manages educational programs that use cutting-edge technologies, and supports internship and mentoring programs. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, and dancing.
