Dr. Greta Reintjes
Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology
Dr. Greta Reintjes is a marine biologist and microbial ecologist. Her research centers on the investigation of microbiomes, the community of microorganisms colonizing a particular ecosystem, and the role these microorganisms play in local and global biochemical cycling. She accomplishes this by combining culture-independent approaches such as super-resolution microscopy to studying microbial metabolism at a single-cell level and next-generation sequencing techniques to study complete microbial community responses. Her early research focused on deciphering how marine microorganisms affect and mediate carbon turnover in the Oceans. Currently, she is a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Research Fellow working on a joint research project between the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology, Germany, and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, focusing on the prebiotic functional enhancement of livestock microbiome.
